Checking In On Andre Balazs’ Rumored Mercer Hotel London

2013 is a year full of hotel openings (we have a handy Master List for you), and it’s marked in our calendar as the possible time Andre Balazs pulls the curtain from his latest venture, the expected Mercer London.

To find out whether this year is likely to happen, we headed over to the fire station on Chiltern Street in Marylebone this past weekend to look at the construction progress, and things are moving on, if still far from being finished.

The biggest change? The addition of a multi-story extension between the main building and the smaller structure across the courtyard. Check out the difference with our previous shots from last year in the gallery.

The renderings we uncovered at the time not surprisingly have disappeared from the web, and AB’s website still has no mention of his future 26-suite hotel. The notices on the scaffolding that cover the façade indicate their planned removal is for late May, so by then we should be able to get you a full view of the revamped 1889 exterior.

Coincidentally, a London Fashion Week Mercedes Benz S-Class was parked right out front, surely something that will be a familiar sight this time next year. In the meantime, all we can do is ask: Andre, when are you finally going to give us some details on the Mercer London?
