An Unstoppable Force: SLS Heads Northwest To Seattle In 2016
The folks over at SLS are on a roll this week. One day after announcing SLS Las Vegas will open in 2014 (allegedly), they're looking even further into the future with plans for SLS Seattle to open in 2016.
Can you say 'overachiever?'
We're reminded of a Virgin Hotels exec who recently said they're "still on track" to reach their goal of 20 Virgin Hotels in 10 years—despite the fact that they haven't even opened one yet.
Admittedly, SLS/sbe/Sam Nazarian are in a far better position, with four properties already up and running (SLS South Beach, SLS Beverly Hills, The Redbury, and The Raleigh). So for now, we'll take their word for it that construction on a $400 million development, located at 5th and Columbia in Downtown Seattle, is set to begin at the end of the year, with an anticipated completion of 2016.
The hotel will have 184 rooms (designed by Philippe Starck, of course), and will occupy floors 2 through 15 of a mixed-use tower with a whole bunch of food, beverage and retail outlets, not to mention a spa and fitness center.
Read a quote from sbe founder Sam Nazarian after the jump!
The SLS master himself has apparently been steering the SLS ship towards Seattle for a while now:
"We’ve had our eye on Seattle for years, and with the local hospitality market trending in a very positive direction, we’re extremely pleased to announce our plans for SLS Hotel Seattle."
Hmm...sounds like, if Sam's words are anything to go by (and we trust they are), then Seattle will be one to watch in the coming months and years.
Obviously, 2016 is a long way away, but sbe confirms that dining concepts will be developed once again by Jose Andres. More to come, we can almost guarantee it.
