Shangri-La was on our list of openings to be excited for in 2013, but an exact opening date proved elusive, pushed back time after time. The Renzo Piano-designed Shard itself did eventually open, complete with knee-buckling views from up high.
Stories of contractors being replaced over the summer further fuelled the debate what exactly the future would hold for the hotel, as opening slipped yet again, and into 2014. A sign of hope came just before the year was out, with some details on rooms, restaurants, and the 52nd floor pool, including what looks like actual photography from inside the hotel.
We’re waiting for the chance to add our own shots as proof that 2014 will truly be the year that Shangri-La at the Shard will make the transition from hype to reality. Perhaps this "award" will spur on some speedy construction.
