SLS Hotels Officially Announce the SLS International Hotel in Philadelphia

Something lovely's starting in Philadelphia--an SLS Hotel.

We first heard mention that hotelier Sam Nazarian's SLS brand would open in Philadelphia over the summer when SLS announced expansion plans in China and subtly dropped a list of future U.S. locations that included Philly. Today, the company is going public with the plans, partnering with Dranoff Properties to open the 47-story SLS International Hotel and Reisdences at the intersection of Broad and Spruce Streets in Center City, directly across from the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.

(Apparently, there's already an SLS Philadelphia, a Spanish Language School, but Carl Dranoff told the Philadelphia Inquirer the International name is also an homage to the Philadelphia International Records building, home to the birthplace of Philadelphia Sound and the site of the new SLS hotel.)

The hotel will have 150 hotel rooms and 125 luxury condominiums. Also on-site will be a full spa, fitness center, an 85' indoor pool and ballroom/meeting facilities. sbe’s (SLS's parent company) is expected to put some of their well-known F&B concepts in as well including The Bazaar by José Andrés, Katsuya by Starck and Hyde Lounge. Handling the architecture and design is Kohn Pedersen Fox Associated who will put 10 foot ceilings, walls of windows and full balconies in every residence (and we hope hotel room too.) The hotel should be completed by 2016.

This is just the latest in a series of big announcements forms sbe and SLS. Most recently, the company announced an entirely new hotel brand Hyde Hotels and Resorts, opening first in Miami. Next up is the SLS New York, Las Vegas and Seattle. It's looking rather likely that Nazarian will be the first-ever back-to-back winner of HotelChatter's Hotelier of the Year award.
