In case you thought your visit to the new Andaz Peninsula Papagayo would be just a sunny, luxe vacation filled with nothing but gluttonous me time, forget about it. Andaz has painstakingly curated the hotel experience with the help of its team of Cultural Insiders.

Who qualifies as a Cultural Insider? You may ask. Well, the team the hotel has recruited are all people at the top of their industries of art, music and surf. First up there's twin brothers, Alex and Mike Faherty of the Faherty Brand clothing label who will together take the position of Cultural Insider: Surf. The Fahertys will provide guests with their own ‘How to Surf Costa Rica’ guide, created exclusively for the hotel, which will reveal a list of the hottest hidden surf spots in the country. Guests who book the Witches Rock Surf Package, which includes a full day excursion to Witches Rock National Park plus a professional photographer to shoot the ride, will also receive Faherty Brand board shorts or bikini.

Next there's Salvador Ödrec, who will serve as Cultural Insider: Art. This artist, from Cartago, creates work that is heavily influenced by his childhood love of street art and graffiti. Ödrec will exhibit 15 of his critically acclaimed paintings throughout the property’s public areas as part of the Andaz Salon series.

A music stylist, DJ and record producer with over 20 years experience in producing tracks for some of the world’s most famous labels, night clubs, restaurants and hotels, Jared Dietch will take on the role of Cultural Insider: Music. Dietch has curated music for the property that is inspired by the natural sounds of the Papagayo region; local music, rhythms and designs. Guests will hear Costa Rican artists including Malpais, Manuel Obregon and Ruben Blades.

Staff working in the spa, restaurant and front of house have not been neglected: they will all be wearing fabulous yet functional footwear by Soludos . Gals will be sporting the brand new sneaker-inspired Sandshoes while guys will rock the classic Soludos espadrille. (Andaz uniforms are so chic).

The Andaz Peninsula Papagayo will open on December 20 when rates will start at $700 -- yep; we're still hoping for a price drop as opening gets nearer. The hotel sits along the Papagayo Gulf, along the Bay of Culebra, and will have 153 guest rooms, including 21 suites; three themed restaurants, a marina bar, two pools, a private beach, and a spa and fitness center.
