Fortuna Realty's Garment District Hotel Hits a Snag, but the Soho Hotel is Looking Good

Developer Morris Moinian's Fortuna Realty Group's future 170-room luxury boutique hotel with spa, rooftop bar and lounge was one of our recent Garment District hotel developments to watch, but they've hit a snag. The Havana NY restaurant, which currently occupies one of the buildings the group plans to turn in the new hotel, are allegedly refusing to vacate the premises. According a report in The Real Deal the group are now suing the restaurant's owner in the New York State Supreme Court, claiming that the delay in development has cost Fortuna more than $10 million.

In happier news for Fortuna, their Soho Hotel at 525 Greenwich Street seems to be coming along nicely (below).

It's been quite some time since we last checked in on the 122-room and two penthouse suite hotel at Hudson Square, but we are feeling quietly confident that they will make the June 2014 completion date posted at the site (if not the January 2014 opening date posted on their website.) Of course some of the biggest buzz around this property is the 'major restaurant concept' that will occupy the ground floor. We're hoping to hear more soon -- besides this rendering of the entrance, we have no idea what to expect.
