That's right, Antonio now carries the golden spoon for being the "Hottest Hotel Chef In The World".
We were able to get in touch with Antonio (email was best due to his thick accent!) and ask him how he felt about his win.
HotelChatter: Congratulations, you've won the competition. Who will you call first?
Chef Antonio Minichiello: I'll call my family back home. I had quite the fan club voting for me all the way from Italy, so I'd love to tell them I won.
HC: Have you ever been called a “Hot Chef” before? What does it mean to you?
AM: No, I have never been called a hot chef before, my main focus is how hot my dishes look!
HC: Did you read the comments people said about you? What was your favorite?
AM: Yes, I read them. My favorites were "An-Hot-Tonio" and "100 broken hearts in Italy".
HC: What does it mean to be an executive chef? Are you really in the trenches, or just barking orders in the kitchen?
AM: I am the Verandah restaurant Chef. I do both cooking and delegating. It really depends on the day and what's going on in the kitchen.
HC: Other than yourself, who do you consider to be a Hot Chef?
AM: I was sure Marcela would have won. She would have had my vote!
HC: What will be your celebratory dish to eat and drink for this high honor?
AM: I'll celebrate with my favorite dish of the season, my hand-made Pumpkin Gnocchi, which is currently on the menu at Verandah, and prosecco, of course.
HC: Will you ask for a raise after this? You’ve got some leverage now!
AM: If people will now experience Verandah, that would be enough for me. But I say we do a survey. If a guest comes in as a result of the contest, I get a portion of their check!
In case you're curious: Second place (by 8 votes!) went to Chad, and third place went to Marcela.
Thanks for playing!
