iPrefer Offers Loyalty Perks for Staying in Independent Hotels

As much as we love the idea of saving up loyalty points and redeeming them for free hotel stays, there's a couple of things that make that unrealistic. First of all, we'll never betroth ourselves to just one particular brand: when it comes to our hotels, we like to play the field. Secondly, it just takes too darn long to save up those points.

Preferred Hotel Group has now revamped their loyalty program, iPrefer, to do away with both of those problems and offer what Senior Vice President of Marketing, Casey Ueberroth, called at the program's New York launch "more of a gentle slope than a mountain climb" to rewards. The new program rewards travelers with points that can be exchanged for Reward Certificates redeemable like cash during stays at more than 450 one-of-a-kind participating hotels and resorts worldwide. It's a loyalty program for independent hotels.

First off, it's free to become an iPrefer member; just sign up at www.iprefer.com. Once you're a member, you'll then earn one point for every dollar spent at participating hotels. Then, when you have accumulated a qualifying balance of 2,500 points, you can exchange their points for Reward Certificates (starting value of US$50 and also available in British Pounds and Euros) redeemable at every participating property. You just print off your certificate, or save it on your phone, and present it at check-in. All participating hotels accept Reward Certificates towards payment for any hotel room booking, and some also accept them as payment for other services, such as brunch or a spa treatment.

In addition to points, all iPrefer members receive additional benefits upon check-in at every participating hotel through a new tiered status system, determined by points earned during a 12-month period:

     • Silver (0-4,999 points): Points for eligible bookings, complimentary Internet, priority early check-in and late check-out

     • Gold (5,000- 14,999 points): Silver benefits plus a welcome amenity and upgrade when available

     • Platinum (15,000+ points): Gold benefits plus 10% bonus points earnings

Ueberroth says that iPrefer is the first reward program that celebrates difference, and custom-fit, bespoke hotels, over homogeneity. With participating properties that vary from the sleek Sherry Netherland to the traditional Guatemalan textile-decorated Porta Antigua, you need never get stuck in a hotel brand rut again.
