Will NYC's Governors Island Get a Hotel?
We've often thought of Governors Island as a bit of an oddity, what with its summer weekends only access and Jazz Age Lawn Party, but might it soon become New York's next hot hotel destination?
As part of the 172-acre island's transformation to a year-round destination, a new park and public spaces are being designed and proposals for the revitalization of 40 historic buildings are being considered. DNAInfo reported from a presentation of the new renderings to Community Board 1 last week that some of those proposals indicate a possible spa, hotel or conference center.
According to the Trust for Governors Island, the proposals will be finalized some time between now and December.
We're not sure we'd stay at a hotel on the island. Sure, it might make for a good "get away from it all" break, but isn't being in the thick of it all one of the pleasures of NYC.
