Over at the Shard, the public viewing platform called The View From The Shard might be open (with ticket prices starting at a substantial £25 ($40) a person if booked more than 24 hours in advance), but the Shangri-La hotel is not due until the end of June. We just received the first edition of their newsletter in the lead up to opening, which talks “Summer 2013”, so count on a good six months before you can take the elevator up to level 34 and spend those £25 on a drink at the bar instead.
Unfortunately, we won’t be getting our Edition on much sooner either. The former Berners Hotel, on the street of the same name just east of London’s Oxford Circus, is still being non-committal with a late spring / summer opening. A LinkedIn profile shows a former HR Director of the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel is taking up the same role over at Edition as of this month, so maybe that will kick-start the recruitment side of things in the near future.
In other Edition news, Travel Weekly reports that Marriott has now acquired a property on Sunset for the Edition LA, which we first talked about last May. It’ll be years before that opens though, and with Miami pushed back to 2014, and New York, Bangkok, and Abu Dhabi all distant dreams as well, the wait for a proper Edition revival continues…
