Westin Continues Panama As Paramour With Second Hotel

Panama continues to be a sweetheart location for hoteliers and Westin has put another ring on it, by opening a second hotel, simply called the Westin Panama, this month. Located in the Costa del Este area of Panama City, the 218-room hotel is the sister property to the Westin Playa Bonita resort (opened December 2011), just 20 miles away.

While this hotel is mostly aimed at the business traveler—and there are many in town taking care of all those real estate and hotel deals we’ve been hearing about lately—it does have just enough flavor and colorful décor (and the Costa Nova restaurant) to let you know you are in the Caribbean.

Starwood opened this property in association with Bern Hotels & Resorts, and will be the seventh Starwood branded hotel in Panama. The Costa del Este area is considered located in Panama's financial and business center, 15 minutes to downtown nightlife, and 30 minutes to Panama City and Tocumen International Airport.

We’re no fan of the $15.75 per day in-room WiFi charge (uh, it’s $15 in public areas!), but it’s no surprise and we’re sure someone gets to expense that. And don't forget to get those SPG Points!

Our ill-will feelings may disappear once we rinse off a day's work sitting in the room’s ergonomic chairs, by hopping in the Heavenly Shower and jumping in the Heavenly Bed. We’re still thinking about buying a king-size jammy (hello tax return! Who are we, kidding—there shall be no tax return.

Rates at the Westin Panama in January begin at $190 per night.
