Aman Exits New Delhi, But Coming To Venice And China

Following the news last summer that Aman Resorts opened a property in Greece, we have another quick update on this ultra-high end (and celebrity-friendly) group today.

As of February 1, Aman New Delhi will be rebranded as The Lodhi, leaving the Aman brand behind. You wouldn't expect it perhaps based on the hotel’s exterior, but the nine-story building contains just 31 rooms and eight suites, all in a very contemporary and subdued style. Each room comes with its own private terrace, while suites sprawl out over 1,800 square-feet. A lower structure contains an additional 14 Lodhi suites, and Lodhi Pool suites, with up to three bedrooms, have access to their own private pool (prices for these come with the label "on request").

Aman-í-Khás

With the re-branding of The Lodhi, Aman will still have two resorts in India: Amanbagh and Aman-í-Khás, the latter offering just ten tents as a base from which to explore Ranthambore National Park, one of the few places in the world left to spot tigers in the wild. The Lodhi will still be part of the Aman India Journey, a six-night itinerary that takes guests to all three properties for two nights each.

Two new resorts are also confirmed to debut in the first half of 2013, although all other details are kept under wraps at this time. In April, a third property will open in China in the western city of Lijiang (current hotels include Aman at Summer Palace in Beijing and Amanfayun in Hangzhou). The Old Town of Lijiang is a UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for its waterways and bridges with a history dating back more than 800 years.

Water is also a dominant feature for another Aman opening in June, in perhaps the most famous city-with-canals: Venice. Rumor has it the canal-side Palazzo Papadopoli, in the San Polo district and close to the famous Rialto Bridge, will be the future home of Aman.

As soon as more details emerge on both resorts, you’ll read about it here. In the meantime, rates for an Aman room at Aman New Delhi start at $650, excluding a whopping 28+% tax, but including transfers to and from the city’s airport or railway stations.
