The Apple iPhone 5 is Already Causing Hotel Stress in San Fran
In case you've been living under a rock (hopefully with your iPhone) this past week, rumors and feature leaks abound in regards to the upcoming release of the Apple iPhone 5. The actual unveiling won't happen for a week yet, taking place on September 12 at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
In the meantime, all of the Apple invitees, tech journalists and other news media seeking to cover the event are also seeking hotel reservations. According to the recent Trivago hotel price index report, the repercussions of the iPhone rush are already being felt:
With 53% of rooms still available in San Francisco during the time of the Apple event, prices have already increased 10% compared to last month and 25% compared to this time last year. While last year the average price was $232, the current price for September 2012 is an average of $289.
So maybe next year (iPhone 6 anyone?), after the flurry of this year, SF will get its act together to have better hotel options. If we haven't said it enough before, we're just not that into the SF hotel variety.
