The Times also reported on the temporary shuttering, speaking to Rev. Al Sharpton:
"Mr. Sharpton said he thought it was 'the height of irony' to ask people who treasure the Regency for its history as the original home of the power breakfast to relocate to a restaurant predicated on change. But he said he and others would 'test out the temporary digs' before deciding 'if it will be a temporary headquarters that everyone can adjust to.'"
We'd like to point out that not only does New York have an ungodly amount of hotels packed onto its narrow strip of land, almost all of those hotels do indeed serve breakfast. In fact, just the other morning, we had a splendid breakfast of yogurt and granola inside the cafe at the artsy Gershwin Hotel. We're not sure if we'd deem it a "power breakfast," but we certainly left satisfied.
The interim Park Avenue restaurant (which is called, oddly, Park Avenue Autumn, and in the winter, will become Park Avenue Winter) should hopefully fit the bill. Though if the power breakfasters remain displeased, we're positive we'll be hearing about it.
