Originally launched in Seattle in the 90s, Rudy's Barbershop is a bona fide hipster institution, offering traditional mens and womens haircuts in retro barbershops across Portland and LA. This summer, the team headed all the way out to the East Coast to open a new location at Ace New York.

So far, the shop has received warm welcomes from places like Racked and New York Magazine, the latter reporting that the shop offers "oft-tattooed stylists who cater to both men and women" and is "consistently well-soundtracked with the likes of the Raveonettes and Rufus Wainwright."

Yup, sounds about right.

There are 10 chairs in the shop, and haircuts range from $17 for a buzz to $40 for short hair to $60 for long hair. Although to celebrate its opening back in July, the hotel was offering free haircuts to hotel guests for an entire weekend. Let's hope, pray, that they do something like this again.

In the Ace's words, the guys at Rudy's "know their way around some serious plumage, be it a feather cut, flat top or come-what-mane."

The barbershop is tucked below street level on the far left hand side of the hotel, next to The Breslin. Which brings the hotel's non-accommodation facilities to a grand total of seven: two shops, a cafe, an oyster bar, a restaurant, a sandwich shop, a barbershop. And a partridge in a pear tree.
