This new ownership change has us scratching our heads and asking will it be an SBE Hotel or something else? We checked in with SBE and they were not commenting on the sale. But we think their partnership in the property is a good sign it will be a part of their portfolio.
We also know that SBE honcho Sam Nazarian is keen to spin-off The Redbury brand but the Raleigh is probably not the right property for it. For starters, the hotel cannot change its name as it's an iconic South Beach hotel. Second, the Redbury in Hollywood has a residential style feel. We're not sure the rooms at the Raleigh are up to snuff in that sense.
Whatever happens with The Raleigh, the new owners will inject some major energy into the place. Miami.com reports that Michael Schwartz of Michael's Genuine Restaurants in Miami and the Grand Caymans will open a new spot in the hotel with kitchen renovations beginning soon. Perhaps room renovations and fugly carpet removal will also begin soon. Fingers crossed!
Got any scoop on what's happening inside The Raleigh? Send it along! (Anonymity assured.)
