Mark 'openhousenewyork' in Your iCal for Inside Hotel Access

August 16, 2012 at 12:34 PM | by | Comments (0)

Once a year in New York City, something awesome happens over a whole weekend. It's called openhousenewyork and the idea is exactly what it sounds like—to open up private bits of the city for public viewings and tours.

Typically this means events like walking tours of West Village backyard gardens or, like last year, a very unique few hours of wandering the inside of the old TWA terminal at JFK Airport. Though the full schedule for 2012 hasn't yet been released, OHNY has teased inside access to a few of the city's big hotels:

Explore this new addition to this year's OHNY Weekend. The Wythe Hotel, a true gem in Williamsburg, opened its doors this past May. Designed by Morris Adjmi Architects, the hotel exudes the same edgy Brooklyn style as the neighborhood where it resides.

Since its creation in 1959, The Four Seasons has become world-renowned restaurant for its modernist interior designed by Philip Johnson and Mies van der Rohe. Currently undergoing restoration, the restaurant is a new site for OHNY Weekend. Get an inside look at the restarurant with architect, Belmont Freeman.

The New York Marriott Marquis, opened in 1985 and designed by architect John Portman, helped spark the revitalization of the then sordid Times Square Theater District. Hear about the history and day-to-day operations of this immense hotel during OHNY Weekend.

Mark openhousenewyork in your iCal; the weekend runs October 6 & 7. Watch this space for news on when exactly these hotel tours will happen and how to score access.
