There's not a huge selection of hotel rooftops when it comes to getting high in the West Chelsea district of Manhattan, and maybe that's why the Hilton Fashion District named its deck "Rare View." And it's completely likely they did so with the idea of highlight the hotel's angle looking up at the Empire State Building.

Nonetheless, it was yesterday during the launch of those Vivienne Tam slippers on this rooftop that we noticed a somewhat secret view even better than gazing uptown: sweet, sweet downtown and the progress of 1 World Trade Center from afar, with the inclusion of those oh-so-new-yorky water towers atop buildings from Chelsea on down through Soho.

Rare View is open daily from 5pm-12am; we recommended going during sunset to catch the pink glinting off glass skyscrapers.

The solid uptown view
