The interiors for The James Royal Palm were created by Rottet Studio, and here's what principal Lauren Rottet had to say in Boutique Design magazine about her inspiration:
"After eating in some Cuban cafes and talking with local artists, I started thinking about Jean-Michel Basquiat (the late graffiti/neo-expressionist artist) meeting Virginia Woolf at the James and staying up long into the night talking about art and poetry."
Alrighty, then. Not what came to mind when we saw Rottet's work, but we can dig her vision--and we look forward to seeing the pieces of furniture carved from tree trunks that are said to be in the hotel.
Then, of course, out the back, there is this...

We bet Basquiat would have loved it.
