Hotel La Jolla Becomes A Kimpton This Month
Designer Gulla Jonsdottir of Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel fame is the woman behind the hotel’s transformation to casual, but elegant lodgings. La Jolla-based architect Claude-Anthony Marengo carried out Jonsdottir’s vision with a $4 million budget and a quick seven-month schedule to bring the hotel up to Kimpton standards. It now has a oversized sculptures and a wood fireplace in the lobby, and a pool deck with cabanas, fire pits, and a bar. For the ultimate ocean-viewing experience, guests can head to the Mediterranean-themed restaurant Cusp, located on the hotel’s 11th floor.
The 110, thoroughly modern rooms with their stone floors and woven grass wall coverings all have panoramic views of the Pacific coastline which can be seen from the glass-wall bathrooms. We especially like the freebies the Kimpton brand is well-known for like WiFi and minibar items(both when you sign up for the complimentary Kimpton InTouch loyalty membership program)and the evening wine hour (free for any guest).
Hotel La Jolla is in a great part of town as well, within walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and art galleries, and just a short drive away to the area’s famous attractions—the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld and Balboa Park.
Starting rates begin at $229 per night.
