We've long bemoaned the practice of luxury properties like the Four Seasons Hotels charging not just top-dollar room rates but also a king's ransom for WiFi. Yet at the Four Seasons, in the heart of Fantasy Land aka Los Angeles, hotel guests get a little bit of a break.

Basic internet--like web browsing, checking your email and updating your social networking status--is totally free. And on multiple devices too. Of course, the downside of getting it for free is that it's not always fast. While our go-to websites all loaded properly, it wasn't a high-speed connection by any means. However, it did beat out some connections we've had at Starbucks. (Alas, you do have to be a hotel guest to access even the basic internet.)

That said, if you need something a little stronger, then you can pay $18.99 for premium internet which will allow you to stream movies, upload and download files and even video chat. $18.99 is steep but that does support up to three devices so that will cover either your laptop and your iPad or your laptop and your kids' iPads and Nintendo DS's.

While free WiFi is still not a brand standard at the Four Seasons, we wouldn't mind if more of them start introducing tiered payment plans like this one. That will save us money for other things at the hotel, like room service or drinks by the pool.

UPDATE: The Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills has just begun offering complimentary basic Internet as well.
