New Orleans' Historical Hotel Dining Rooms: The Roosevelt

A while back on our brother site, Jaunted, we looked into how the NYC of the 1950s gave way to the NYC of today, sadly minus $1.95 steak dinners and the "famous rooms" that used to keep hotels hopping. It's important to note, however, that the famous rooms—selling a good time with dining, drinking and dancing to live music—weren't just a Big Apple exclusive.

Recently we came across a 1960 visitor's brochure for the Mississippi Coast, in which the New Orleans version of these famous rooms is advertised. We'll be focusing on a few the rest of this week.

Today, it's the The Blue Room at The Roosevelt. See what it looks like now.

Not only is The Roosevelt still around, but it's still a real hotel. Even better: The Blue Room is still The Blue Room, and though the celebrities in their mink coats ordered their last highballs decades ago, the space remains for special events. The Roosevelt's website fill us in on past A-list partiers:

During the height of the supper club era in the early 1930’s there was one venue that continually drew the stars of stage and screen for unforgettable performances. Locals and visitors alike would put on their Sunday best and head to The Roosevelt to see such celebrities as Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Durante and Sonny & Cher to name a few.

A better bet these days would be the hotel's Sazerac Bar.
