Introducing Ollie, Fairmont's Toiletry Mascot for Kids

Summer's here and school's out which means your summer travel plans may involve schlepping the little ones along with you. Same goes for new parents who aren't quite ready to compromise their jetsetting lifestyles. While it definitely requires more planning and more organization, a dream vacation can still be had. All this week, we'll be looking at a few hotels that are making it not just fun but easier for families to have a summer trip to remember.

Fairmont Hotels have long been a family favorite, thanks to the plentiful Kids Clubs activities at their hotels but this summer special attention is being paid to attention to the kiddies up in the guestrooms.

Fairmont has unveiled a new ambassador, Ollie, for their youngest hotel guests at their North American properties. Ollie's main job is to provide babies and tots with complimentary amenity kits that include an Ollie the Otter stuffed animal, no-tears hair wash, cleansing soap, toothbrush & paste, bubble bath and gentle lotion. If you're staying at a Fairmont this summer, then no need to squeeze all your baby products into travel-sized bottles and when you're already trying to pack up the gear, toys, books and blankets, it's a small relief to not worry about this.

Other hotels that we've come across with excellent toiletry kits for kids include the Trump Soho which has an exclusive Lather toiletries kit and the Canyon Ranch Miami which included mini-bottles of Johnson & Johnson baby toiletries.

But there's even more for kids up in the guestrooms at Fairmonts.

On Monday, we mentioned the Soho Grand as going above and beyond when it came to baby amenities. But a friend of ours reports that at the Fairmont Kea Lani on Maui, the hotel offers cribs, changing tables and diaper pails for the rooms. And they even provided a portable crib for babies to sleep in poolside so you didn't have to sit in your room while the baby napped. All this is in addition to the keiki-sized lei given to kids upon arrival as well as their own sand bucket and shovel. (To see the family amenities at different Fairmonts, go straight to their Family Travel website.)

Also new this summer for Fairmont kids is the Lifestyle Cuisine for Kids program where old menu staples like pizza and chicken fingers get a healthy upgrade. Chefs in Fairmont kitchens are swapping out refined flour for whole wheat and incorporating more fruits and vegetables into the recipes. Hopefully, this will let you relax a little bit when the kids are eating pizza for the fourth day in a row.
