The screening actually took place last night (though the same organization is planning another, separate event tonight at The Out NYC, in case you're interested in that sorta thing). However, the Times failed to mention another W-related film series happening elsewhere in the city this summer. Specifically, at the W Downtown.
The kick-off event for the W Downtown series, titled "New York In Film," took place last month and featured NYC-inspired films curated by Isaac Mizrahi. The fashion expert handpicked, of all things, Sweet Charity, and hosted a pre-screening cocktail reception at the hotel.
We've seen the public spaces at W Downtown before, and know how much fun they can be to sit in and have a drink. Or, in colder weather, a free hot chocolate.
However, for these screenings, the hotel is opening up the Residential Lounge on the 31st floor for the first time to non-guests, so you get to really soak up views of the city while you watch movies about it.
Tickets, which cost $30, go towards a charity chosen by the curator. Who, for the month of July, happens to be Spike Lee himself. The hotel has yet to announce a date for Lee's film event, though we can guarantee tickets will be selling pretty fast. Tickets are now on sale for July 31st screening here. Better make sure you're on the ball for this one!
