The Palace was commissioned by the Marquis de Valle Flôr, a Portuguese cocoa producer who left for Africa in 1855 at the age of 16 to make his fortune. Early in the 20th century the elegant home hosted most of the social elite. But after the Marquis' death in 1932 the Palace was abandoned and left to crumble. In 1992 the Pestana Group began a massive restoration and now this celebrity fave is designated a National Monument.
We doubt Madonna needs these, but occasional Pestana Palace packages offer super-star perks for free: parking, Wi-Fi, early check in, late check out and points for Pestana's Priority program. With a total of 194 rooms including 17 suites, rooms in the new wing and junior suites range from 200 to 1000 Euro ($253US to $1,265US).
Suites and the Royal Suites: Dom Manuel, Dom Carlos I, Dom Luís I and Dona Amélia are 1000 to 3000 Euros ($1265. US to $3797.US). Make a reservation to sleep in Madonna's bed, but mind all the crunches you'll have to do to stay in Madonna’s exquisite shape after the stellar breakfast in the elegant Restaurant Valle Flôr.
