We've been talking about Berlin a lot lately, and other travel pals seem to be on the bandwagon, so this leads us to believe there will be a mad dash to Deutschland this summer. Now, we won’t get into the new Berlin Brandenburg airport mishaps that have plagued the city for the last two months(our sister Jaunted can fill you in), instead, we’ll assume you’ve got a plan to get there and just need an affordable place to stay.
Enter the Hotel Pension-Funk whose name we just love to say. Even more than that we love the rates at this 14-room inn located in a quiet old West Berlin nabe called Charlottenburg. If you want to get to the city’s more hip areas, you're only a short walk to the U-Bahnhof Kurfürstendamm and Uhlandstrasse underground stations, as well as the Berlin Bahnhof Zoo railway station.
Once the home of silent film star Asta Nielsen, the 19th-century Pension keeps it old school with antique furniture, chandeliers, and Art Nouveau details. But just in case you get nervous about being in a time warp (there are no TVs in the room), the free WiFi will keep you all up in the 21st century, so your tech toys are welcome.
Here’s the thing, there are several different rates for this hotel, and they all depend on your comfort level. For those who don’t mind sharing a toilet (WC) and a shower with other guests, single room prices begin at $46 per night. If you want more privacy and traveling as a couple, the $103 double room gets you your own accommodations with both facilities. Breakfast is included in any rate you chose, making this a fantastic steal.
