Serena Safari Lodges Have Killer Views at Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater

Today we have not one, but two killer views for you, which happen to be from two properties belonging to the same group: Serena Hotels. If the name doesn't ring a bell, this might be because you'll have to make your way to East Africa or Southeast Asia (Pakistan, Afghanistan) to find one.

In addition to city center hotels in places such as Nairobi or Kabul, Serena Hotels has a number of safari lodges in its portfolio, which is where you'll find these killer views.

If you prefer your view while floating around an azure blue pool, head to Lake Manyara Safari Lodge, perched on a ridge overlooking Lake Manyara National Park in Tanzania. A total of 67 rooms are located in traditional "rondavels", circular structures with conical thatched roofs.

For an equally stunning view from high up, the Ngorongoro Safari Lodge, also in Tanzania, overlooks the Ngorongoro conservation area and UNESCO World Heritage site. The 100 sq. mi. Ngorongoro Crater is the largest volcanic crater in the world, with the lodge built from local river stone standing on the rim. Each of the 75 rooms has a balcony and offers the same staggering vista.

Both lodges can be reached by road in about two to four hours from Arusha, the main city in northwestern Tanzania and home to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Alternatively, you can cut out the journey by arriving at the airstrip adjacent to either lodge.

For both hotels the same adage is true: reserve early. In fact, we've checked and they're already booked solid for the next few months. Given the limited accommodation in the area, rooms tend to sell out well in advance. But when you do snag one, expect to pay about $500 per night.
