Which Is Cheaper For Memorial Day Weekend, Brooklyn or Manhattan?

So, it's May 1, and you still haven't gotten around to booking that hotel room for your annual Memorial Day Weekend jaunt to NYC. And come to think of it, there sure are a lot of choices these days when it comes to a long weekend in the Big Apple. So here are a few suggestions for your cost-conscious travels...

Brooklyn's newest boutique gem, The Wythe, which opens today, has Memorial Day Weekend rates of $270/night, which is pretty much spot on to what we predicted a few weeks ago. What you'll get for your money: killer views of Manhattan, a trendy restaurant (Reynards), and an outdoor terrace.

But while we'd like to keep things simple and tell you it's generally cheaper to stay in Brooklyn during busy holiday weekends like these, that, sadly, is not the case.

Read on to see what other deals are floating around for the month of May!

After browsing through some of our usual online booking suspects, we found deals at DoubleTree Financial District (Hotels.com, $197/night), Hotel Lola (Quikbook, $219/night) and The Roger (Quikbook, $220/night). This last one is actually good, considering that rates are reportedly sky-rocketing to $500/night after the hotel's grand re-launch. Well, guess that final change hasn't gone through quite yet!

It was, we admit, a little disappointing, when checking rates around Brooklyn, to only come up with a measly Holiday Inn Express in downtown Brooklyn for $190/night. With both King & Grove Williamsburg and Marriott Brooklyn Bridge hovering right around $300/night, it's simply more practical to remain in Manhattan.

Further up the scale are places like The Carlton, Dream Downtown, Standard East Village and Conrad New York, which are all sticking somewhere in the $250-$350/night range. Even on Andaz Wall Street's website, we found a rate of $285/night to be a far better value compared to hotels across the river in Brooklyn.
