How Do You Fit 34 Hotel Bathtubs Into The Back Of A Pickup Truck?

A Days Inn in Niagra Falls, NY has been the unlucky victim of every hotel's worst nightmare: bathtub thieves. Local police became involved when the hotel reported that nearly three dozen cast iron tubs were swiped from the property over the course of a month, and no one really knows where they've ended up.

But in case you're picturing a scene out of Penn & Teller, these tubs didn't just disappear right under guests' noses. In fact, the tubs were hanging out in the basement while the rooms upstairs were getting renovated. And since they were all piled up and ready for the taking...well, they got taken.

Captain Williams Thompson from the Niagra Falls Police Department explained to a local news station just how the burglars got access in the first place:

"Tubs and sinks that had been removed were piled up down in the garage in the basement of the building. That garage is accessible to the public, there's a ramp that goes down to it."

The perps were identified as a male and a female driving a blue pickup truck. But that's about all they know—it's a mystery how the stealthy duo managed to abscond with the loot (taking multiple trips, we assume) without being noticed.

As for the tubs themselves, cast iron is apparently something of a commodity, and police reckon the tubs have already been sold on the black market of recycled hotel bathtub metal at around 15 cents a pound. The tubs weigh around 350 lbs each. You do the math.
