Philly's Hotel Scene is Picking Up Again with a W and a Hotel Indigo on the Way

They will pave this parking lot and put up a W paradise.

Four years after plans for a W Hotel to open in Philadelphia were scrapped, we've got news that W will once again give the City of Brotherly Love a try.

The folks at Uwishunu.com tipped us off to this article from Naked Philly which reported that a W Hotel will open at 1441 Chestnut Street in January 2015. Indeed, the W Philly is already listed on the W Hotels Destination page.

Previously, the W was to open in 2009 at 12th and Arch Streets. Instead, it will be home to a Home2Suites which broke ground last week.

But there are even more hotels coming to Philly like Hotel Indigo, which according to the Philly Biz Journal, will be created out of two office buildings at Sansom and Chestnut Streets and will offer up 150 new hotel rooms. Yet before all these places open, Hotel Monaco Philadelphia will beat them to the punch, sometime in Fall 2012.

But isn't it interesting that all these hotels coming out offer free WiFi except the W Hotel? Guess we know where we'll be staying in Philly in the coming years.

Great news

A few notes: The domed building in the background is the lobby of the Ritz Carlton (this is the back side obviously), with the room tower to the left. The blue glass visible on the left of the screen is the Residences @ the Ritz.
This site was previously slated to become the Waldorf Astoria & Tower.
As for the W, this will be at least the third attempt to build one in Philly. Will Smith (the fresh prince guy) tried, unsuccessfully, to build one years before the 12th & Arch proposal. We will believe it when it happens.
