Here's the Latest Edition on What's Happening with Edition Hotels

Speaking of hotel takeovers today, we were reminded to check in on the progress of Edition Hotels, which has had a little difficulty getting off the ground, especially after last summer's takeover in Waikiki.

We spied some Edition London folk milling around the Ritz-Carlton in Downtown LA last week (specifically the property's new GM) during the Marriott company-wide conference so it looks like that property is very much alive. Yet while the Edition website still says 2012 for an opening date, this interesting construction report says 2013 is more likely.

It was also announced last week that Edition hopes to have six hotels open by the end of 2015. Those would include the already open Istanbul Edition, the under-construction South Beach Edition, the Clock Tower Edition in New York as well as Editions in Bangkok (again), Abu Dhabi and Guragon, India. There's even talk of putting an Edition in Los Angeles, adjacent to Beverly Hills, which we would like very much.

The logistics of expanding Edition are a little unclear. First, Marriott was all about using its own money to make the brand happen but now it might sell three of the hotels to fund the expansion.

Truth be told, we're ambivalent about how do they all of this. We just want more Edition Hotels to open closer to home. Is that so bad?
