24-Hour Hotel Rooms are Rare, but Extremely Awesome

Our bed at the Novotel BKK

A couple days ago, Portfolio.com published an article that delves into the up-and-coming trend of the 24-hour hotel room. In it, the Starwood "Your24" concept takes center stage—this is when a Starwood elite member choose their own check in time, and gets the room for 24 hours from there. Alas, this isn't a totally new idea, but Starwood is the largest chain to experiment with it worldwide.

The article continues: "And, tellingly, none of Starwood's much larger competitors have matched the Your24 initiative...Not Accor of France, with 4,100 properties worldwide." Here's where we must step in to point out that Accor actually does offer 24-rooms, though we've only experienced it at the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport.

For $160, we nabbed a standard room at the BKK Novotel and checked in at 9pm. If this was a normal hotel check-in/check-out, we would have had to hit the road again around noon the next day. Instead, with the Novotel's 24-hour room, we used the entire time to sleep through a fever, checking out at 9pm the next day to catch a long-haul flight in far better health.

So what we're saying is...when you check out a hotel's website, look for something like this (as posted on the Novotel's main page): "Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport is 24-Hour Flexi - with no set check in time, arrive when it suits you and checkout 24 hours later." Now that we've experienced a 24-hour room, the regular check-in/check-out seems like a bit of a rip-off, especially if you're at a property that commands over $500 for a (short) night. Are 24-hour rooms the future? We'd like to think so, but they definitely require a large property for the flexible hours to flow.

24-Hour Check-in/out hotel in Bangkok

I was looking for a 24-hour check-in and check-out hotel in Bangkok quite recently as I had an inconvenient flight schedule. I did consider the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport hotel at first but really wanted a hotel in the city centre near Bangkok's shopping hot spots. Luckily I found Galleria 10 in Nana which has a 24-hour check-in/out package that corresponded with my needs for flexibility and it's also near the BTS station which was really awesome. I found my stay there really comfortable because alongside its close proximity to public transportation, it was deep enough into Sukhumvit soi 10 so I could avoid noise from the city when I sleep. The room I stayed in was big compared to a lot of city hotels I have stayed in in the past and I like the modern atmosphere. The buffet breakfast was good with a lot choices (particularly in breads!) and I even got free stuff like an ice-cream for booking this package :D
