The Nomad Hotel first entered our hotel consciousness back in October 2008 when it was announced that the luxury hotel would open in the fall of 2009, right next to the Ace Hotel.

But that opening never quite materialized and to be honest, we sort of forgot about the property after that. Yet last July, the hotel came to life once more when we got a peek at the glass pyramid rooftop which will hold the hotel's "urban playground" restaurant.

And now today, we learn that the NoMad Hotel will soft-open at the end of March.

The 168-room hotel will feature "timeless" interiors done by French designer Jacques Garcia who was inspired by the Parisian flats of his youth. Each room will have hand-selected, custom-designed furnishings and artwork. We're already nodding our heads with approval at those leather armchairs next to the bed.

As you can tell from these room descriptions, the hotel won't really be a competitor with the Ace Hotel. Indeed, a source tells us the NoMad will be "a very high-end hotel, that will complement the Ace" rather than seek to steal away its hipster business.

The NoMad's new website is currently up and running and reservations are being accepted for May starting at $295 a night. However, we hear the website will soon start offering reservations for later this month when the hotel soft-opens. Now, excuse us, while we go add this opening to the list.

The triumvirate

Ha! I was just thinking I should call those guys this week and check in about when they're opening. Seems like this one, along with the Conrad and Out NYC, are Manhattan's big openings for 2012.

Please let this opening date be true!
