We also discovered some of the BEST FREE IN ROOM AMENITIES ever. Check this out:
• Locally-made Carmel Valley Roasting Company regular and decaf coffee, Mighty Leaf organic tea and hot chocolate (along with coffee makers and a Britta-filtered water jug)
• Glutenfreeda oatmeal, a wheat-free, instant oatmeal (one of us follows a gluten-free diet so this was a HUGE treat!)
• Yoga mats
• All the necessary goods to get a good fire going, stocked daily with easy access to more fire wood
• And – drum roll – FREE WIFI (you’ll need it, too, since cell reception is pretty brutal in Big Sur)
The 15 connected lodge rooms sit close to the highway, but we can’t resist the seven cabins along the Big Sur River for more seclusion, serenity and cajones (hey, it gets DARK out there). Some of the bigger cabins also come with stocked fireplaces inside and outdoor private courtyards complete with soaking tubs.
But no matter where you land, every cabin and room has its own unique outdoor fire pit. Sitting by your own crackling fire under a glorious canopy of redwoods, the Big Sur River quietly rushing in the background and the rich green forest smells competing for your attention, it almost feels like it couldn’t get any better. But it does.
Draw a private bath in one of two outdoor soaking tubs while you and your honey enjoy views of the trees and sky. Or, take that excellent coffee, a cozy wool blanket and book by the fire first thing in the morning. Coming this May, you’ll also be able to grab some wine and a s’mores kit from right inside your room.
Rooms at Glen Oaks Big Sur are currently ranging from $225 to $365 per night.
