A Look at the Outer Space Suite Inside Singapore's Wanderlust Hotel

It's been in magazines and on design blogs aplenty, but the "Space" Suite at Singapore's Wanderlust Hotel is a space you've got to see with your own eyes to appreciate.

Every duplex suite on the top floor of this 29-room hotel in the Little India neighborhood has been conceptualized by local design company fFurious; the "Space" suite is just one of the many looks, and by far the most popular. Maybe the allure comes from the mystery of outer space, or a youth spent sleeping under astronaut-covered sheets? Our guess: it's because the room is pitch-black with only a fiber optic ceiling of stars at night—great for a fantasy night of romance or if you're anticipating a crazy hangover.

It's thanks to the eccentric features of the place that the Wanderlust is one of the Design Hotels. You can stay in the cheapest room category, where the look is all about a single Pantone color, or rooms like enlarged papier-mache creations, or upgrade to the level of the Space suite. Just do know that if you want the Space suite, you must book the "Whimsical" level and then request it, or risk ending up with any of the other suite designs (ranging from a treehouse to a typewriter).

Inside you'll find rocket art on the wall, stuffed animal aliens hanging around, a futuristic bubble hanging chair, a freestanding tub, double sinks, a desk, separate toilet and shower cubes, and a bed lofted above it all. It can be super affordable for a suite, starting at $230 SGD per night ($185 USD) if you score an advance rate. We just toured the room (ask nicely at reception), but it's definitely on our list for when we crave a night away that's more fun than restful.

Interesting concept for a hotel

This certainly looks cool, compared to the standard hotel look everywhere.

Would consider staying there at least once to experience something that's truly out there.
