Considering a family outing before the thaw? Omni Mount Washington Resort, which apparently has the longest zip line in all of New England (who knew?), might be a good place to consider.

Set amid the snowy peaks of White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire, the 200-room historic resort has a whole slew of "winter wonderland" activities that you just can't do in your own backyard. Ideal for adventurous families, the list includes Alpine and Nordic skiing, snowboarding, canopy tours, snowshoeing, dog sledding, ice skating and, yes, historic sleigh rides through the woods.

The rides, which offer guests a relaxing way to tour the resort's grounds, are offered daily (weather permitting, of course) from $50 and up. The upside to being pulled around the woods all day in the cold? That cozy bed feels really, really good when you get back to the hotel.

What's even better than all the snow and pine trees and fun things to do is that rates here start below $200. While a standard room goes for $179, a "Stay Here, Ski Free" package for $200 offers the same room plus two complimentary ski lift tickets.

It kind of goes without saying, but this is the kind of place you really need to spend at least a few nights enjoying. With all the activities, the spa, the farm-to-table pub called Stickneys, there's just too much to squeeze into a one-, or even two-night stay. Like our favorite character, Tom Haverford, from Parks and Recreation likes to say: "Treat yoself!"

I don't think so this year.....

Well here in Woodstock VT we have so little snow that sleigh rides will not be occurring and when I drove past Mount Washington 2 weeks ago it also seemed to have very little snow.

This story seems a little ambitious for 2012.....
