Why Not Get Married at the Hedonism Resort. Naked.
We laughed out loud when we saw this item in the Daily Mail about seven US couples who were flown out to Negril, Jamaica to get married on the beach—naked—at the Hedonism II Resort.
Not that we have anything against nudity. Nor do we disapprove of unconventional wedding ceremonies. It's just, well, after all the Fashion Week madness here in New York, it's kind of refreshing to see guests who just don't give a darn.
Over 100 couples sent in detailed reasons as to why they should be picked for the clothes-optional getaway. And we're guessing the reasons had to be something other than "to save money on a wedding gown." Once they arrived, each couple was treated to a four-night stay at the resort, in exchange for agreeing to be filmed for an upcoming documentary. Which means they get to save money on a wedding photographer too. Good deal!
Apparently, the resort was banned from doing these types of ceremonies back in 2003, when locals and the Jamaica tourism board objected to their representation of the country as pleasure-centric and outside of civilization. Fair enough. But, honestly, at most of the tropical resorts and hotels we've visited, people generally tend to become pleasure-seeking and uncivilized. It's just what happens.
Back when we first read about the wonders of Hedonism in several TripAdvisor reviews, one reviewer likened the experience to "a porn film titled 'Over 50 and going strong.'" Which is hilarious. But from the looks of it, this hotel, just like its guests, won't be slowing down anytime soon.
