Overlooking two active watering holes, the former Bilila Lodge has undergone an extensive renovation of its 77 guest rooms, including 12 suites with plunge pools and five free-standing villas with private swimming pools, all connected by wooden walkways.
The two-story great house has various restaurant options, and a spa is onsite. Currently, two more hotels are planned for Tanzania, including a camp in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and a beach resort on the island of Zanzibar.
Japanese Suite at Four Seasons Tokyo Chinzan-So
Meanwhile, it was announced that Four Seasons Tokyo at Chinzan-So will no longer be managed by the group, starting January 1st. Instead, it will continue on as the Hotel Chinzan-So.
Set in lush gardens, the hotel is much more traditional in feel than its sister hotel, Four Seasons Marunouchi (which will remain a Four Seasons), and particularly popular for weddings. Expansion in Japan is still on the agenda, with upcoming hotels in Kyoto and Okinawa, where there will be definite competition from Ritz-Carlton.
Future site of Four Seasons Resort Cesme
Hot off the presses is the announcement last week of Four Seasons Resort Cesme, a new hotel in Turkey’s Izmir province. Opening in 2016, it will feature 130 resort suites and 16 private hilltop villas. The region is known for both its outdoor activities and cultural history: some of the best windsurfing and kitesurfing areas are nearby, as well as archaeological sites such as the Temple of Artemis (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World) and the Library of Celsus.
There will be extensive sport and fitness facilities and a spa that will take inspiration from the region’s thermal springs. The lobby will mirror the design of a traditional agora – the central gathering place of ancient Aegean city-states – and offer several restaurants, lounges, entertainment and retail areas. Cesme will increase the tally for Four Seasons in Turkey to three, with current city hotels in Istanbul at Sultanahmet and at the Bosphorus.
Rates at the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti start at about $1,100 a night for a Savannah Room, with a Superior Room at Four Seasons Tokyo Chinzan-So available from ¥43,000 ($520) in its last few weeks as a Four Seasons.
