People's Choice Award: The NoMad
It's that time of year again: the 2012 HotelChatter Awards! Today and Monday, we'll be showcasing the best (and worst) of hotels over the past year. But we couldn't do it without you! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or shoot us an email. And the Award goes to...
Even though it opened way back in April, with plenty of other openings between then and now, the hotel you most enjoyed reading about in 2012 was, in fact, The NoMad. And we can hardly blame you.
We (and the rest of the world) quickly fell in love with the NoMad's rich, black-and-gold-accented lobby, its skylit restaurant with old-fashioned dessert trolleys, and its wood-paneled library. And let's not forget about those rooms, which we reviewed not once but twice, and which had us swooning over the claw-foot tubs, wooden floorboards, and minibars hidden inside vintage trunks.
Most of all, we love the hotel's authenticity. What you see on the website is exactly what you get—no nasty surprises, no hidden fees, no exaggerated promises about the service. Just a well-designed, classy hotel; the kind of place you stay at when you're in the mood for something special.
And speaking of special, we've gotta give some love to another beauty that opened in 2012, SLS South Beach. Because even though the records showed you liked NoMad best, SLS was indeed a close second, and fully deserved the Best Hotel Opening of 2012 award we gave it on Friday.
Here's hoping the hotel openings of 2013 will be just as exciting!
NoMad rates start at $295/night, and SLS South Beach rates start at $450/night.
