When we stepped into the spic-and-span lobby, furnished with a few armchairs, some magazines, an old upright piano and decorated a few paintings of local Greenpoint houses, the girl behind the Front Desk immediately jumped up and offered to give us a tour around the place. We never say no to those!

The hotel recently expanded with a fitness center and 15 more rooms, bringing the official room count up to 45.

Walking down the polished hardwood floor hallways between rooms, we got the distinct sense that this was the kind of place we'd happily stay at. Simple, clean, efficient—yet, colorful and fun. All of the doors here are painted red, and along the walls hangs art done by one of the hotel's co-owners.

The rooms themselves are like mini apartments, and they all contain kitchens and small living rooms with flat screen TVs. A lack of traditional hotel room touchstones (sterile color palette, a headboard over the bed, a desk) mean that guests feel more like they're staying in a friend's guest room rather than a pay-by-the-night hotel.

Bathrooms are fresh looking with black and white tiles, and the art over the beds is pretty but not overstated.

If you, like us, are over the whole Williamsburg craze and are seeking something a little different to enhance your Brooklyn stay, we'd definitely recommend a night or two here. And if you can't resist the urge, at least you'll be happy knowing places like King & Grove Williamsburg and The Wythe Hotel are only a short subway ride walk away.
