OK, We're Not That Mad At The US Grant's $1.02 Suite Deal

When we see specials that tout room for $1 or anything in that realm, we react with a twinge of excitement followed by a healthy dose of skepticism. We know these things do happen (see the smidgen of folks who got in on Public Chicago’s $1 deal), but, well, we’re just getting a little tired of breaking our necks for a slim-to-none chance to score a room.

So, when we saw that San Diego’s historic US Grant Hotel (where Michelle Obama recently stayed), the Gaslamp institution we featured in our Presidential Suites story, was offering $1.02 suites in celebration of their 102 birthday, we had to know “what’s the catch?”

Well, there is one, but it’s not that bad.

Now through year’s end, anyone who books one of the hotel’s suites will get every second night for $1.02.

And how much does the first night cost, you may wonder? Well, the Signature Suites begin at $769 a night, but if you stay in a Bi-level or the Presidential Suite like FLOTUS did a few weeks ago, that’ll set you back $3,500. So, we're thinking the best bet is to get in on the Signature Suites which are nothing to sneeze at.

Still, if you’re looking for a swanky holiday gift, this one is a no-brainer. Just divide the cost by two and it doesn’t seem that scary, and certainly not as expensive as our $100K Fantasy Friday option, so let’s just keep it in perspective! Besides, you might run into Tim Burton or Ellen Pompeo!

The US Grant's 'Suite Anniversary’ package is valid for stays through December 30, 2012 using code LYPKG. Naturally, a two-night minimum stay is required.
