Snow Doubt, Get On These Early Ski-Season Deals

Recent snowfall in Colorado and Utah have kicked off an early ski season sparking a storm of deals and packages from resorts across the country. It's not uncommon to see early-bird discounts this time of year, but it appears there's an extra bit of excitement after last year's flop of a season.

It seems every mountain resort imaginable is offering some sort of bargain, whether it's ski and stay discounts, kids ski free, or complimentary hotel nights, so check around before checking in.

Here’s a sampling of some of the best deals from major areas in the US and a few from afar:

Winter Park, Colorado: This local favorite owned by the city of Denver rewards guests who book a five-night stay ($169/night) at the Vintage Hotel before December 12th with a free season pass. The resort puts icing on the cake with a snow guarantee - previously booked nights can be rescheduled if snow conditions are not up to your liking.

The Cambrian, Adelboden, Switzerland: Get seven nights for the price of five (rates starting at $1032 for two people for seven nights) at this resort in the Swiss Alps. The only problem is motivating yourself to enjoy the views from the slopes instead of from its award-winning pool (see photo above).

Jackson Hole Resort, Wyoming: Jackson Hole might be in the middle of nowhere and expensive to fly into, but it's arguably the country's best ski resort. Lift tickets, lodging, and lunch at $99/night per person will sit well for those on a budget.

Big Sky Resort, Montana: Boasting the largest skiable terrain in America with a ridiculous 5,532 acres, early birds won't have to spend big to tackle this Montana mountain. Stay three nights or more from Nov 21st through Dec. 21st and get 50% off.

Mammoth Mountain, California: Mammoth is offering one of the more unique deals we've seen, giving 20% off lodging to guests who fly in via Alaska Airlines which flies from LAX to Mammoth-Yosemite Airport four days a week during the fall season and will move to daily flights on Dec 1st for So Cal residents dreaming of a white Christmas.

Alta Ski Area, Salt Lake City, Utah: It's a duel celebration at Alta this November as the snow has rolled in early to help ring in its 75th anniversary. The mountain opens in two days, and packages start at $79 for lodging and a lift ticket.

Mont-Tremblant Ski Resort, Quebec: European culture is a distinguishing quality for this Canadian ski town, tempting Americans this winter with rates that start at $72/night and family packages that hook it up with free ice-skating and tubing to tire out the kids so the adults can soak in the Jacuzzi and enjoy the fireplace uninterrupted.

Whiteface Mountain, Lake Placid, New York: Did you know New York State has more ski areas than Colorado and Utah combined? Lake Placid's Whiteface Mountain was the #1 ski resort in the eastern US in 2010 according to SKI Magazine, although you wouldn't guess it by the current prices: Ski and stay rates start at $69.

Killington Mountain Resort, Vermont: Ditching work and hitting the slopes midweek will get guests three nights of lodging and skiing for the price of two if they arrive on a Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday.

Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia: Whistler has a bunch of packages for the everyday skier, but we have to throw in at least one bucketlist-type opportunity: Four nights of four-star lodging in Whistler Village, a three-day lift ticket and four runs of heli-skiing. That's right, heli-skiing - the epic of all epic when it comes to the slopes. Rates for this dream come true start at $1,327 per person.
