· HGI Copies IHG With Midtown Location: Apparently, IHG's choice of 219 E 44th St as the location of New York's first Even Hotel wasn't that weird, because Hilton has decided to open up yet another Hilton Garden Inn, the city's fifth in almost the exact same spot. GlobeSt reports that a stalled 205-room HGI on 52nd St and Third Ave (just eight blocks from the new Even Hotel) is now on the way to being completed. Interestingly, the new owner, Hersha, said "There are no other hotels being built there at this time." Really, ya think?
· For A Really Cheap Bed, There's Always The YMCA: A reporter for the NY Times decided to go on a quest to find the seven best hotel rooms for under $150. And knowing what we know about current hotel rates in Manhattan, our first thought was, 'good luck with that!' But the writer managed to unearth some pretty interesting places, among them: an "observatory" in the East Village, a Greenwich Village guesthouse with shared bathrooms (but free toiletry satchels), and, of course, the good ol' YMCA. Apparently, European au pairs-to-be love that place.
· Indigo Scores A NYC Hat-Trick: And finally, TheLowDownNY is saying that the mystery Orchard Street hotel, which we've been wondering about for a long, long time (it's been stalled since 2008), is actually going to be two hotels: an Indigo at 180 Orchard St and an unnamed hotel at 163 Orchard St. There are even renderings. This will be Indigo's third NYC property, after Chelsea and Brooklyn.
