Built in 1953 and considered one of the only two "Art Hotels" in the area, the Ritz Carlton South Beach is in the midst of completely renovating its original Morris Lapidus-designed landmark in the city’s historic Art Deco district. Here are a few pics of what's in store:

To date, $10 million has been put into redesigning the 375 guest rooms and 41 suites, which will still maintain its beloved historical architecture but still bring in 21st-century sophistication with a re-do of the bedding, furniture, and accessories.

Colors will mimic the outdoor hues--with their ocean blues, sea mist greens, and coral tones and blend with rich espresso-stained bookcases and antique-nightstands.

What was it before Ritz?

What was it before it was the Ritz? And is the tanning butler still in effect?

Ritz Carlton

It has always been a Ritz Carlton.  I think it opened about a decade ago.

DiLido Hotel was the name

But the tanning butlers are no more!
