Much ado has been made about the Standard's intended reconfiguration of the public spaces, and we've known for a while about their plans to add an additional bar in the garden space, rearrange the lobby, and add 1,000 sq ft of space.
Well, now those plans are coming to fruition. We spoke briefly with the Front Desk, who told us that work begun yesterday on the lobby and public spaces (too bad, no more ping pong!), and that, even sadder, the work won't be completed for another six months! Yeesh, that's a long time. But we trust the Standard's judgment, as they haven't let us down yet when it comes to their lobbies and public spaces.
And with this newest addition to the brand being touted as "intimate and residential", we're definitely curious to see where this goes.
In the meantime, don't plan on enjoying the Standard East Village's lobby until...April. Sigh, so far away.
