Whiskey, Soda, Rock 'n Roll...And An iPad App
The hotel named after the 1950s Italian hit song Tu Vuò Fà l'Americano (which literally means, 'You want to be an American') has finally opened its doors. And in addition to its homegrown Chelsea glamor, its bento boxes, and its impeccably golden location, now The Americano has one more thing to sing about: its own iPad/iPhone app.
We already knew the hotel was fond of
name-dropping its community—quite a number of the better-known Chelsea residents have already appeared on the Americano's candid "neighborhood" blog. Now, taking the neighborhood-y, insider-y angle one step further, they've tapped a few more neighbors to provide personal recommendations on exploring the city. People like architect Enrique Norton (the man responsible for the hotel's austere mesh facade). It's an insider's game, you know?
Also available through the app: free music! This is something we've seen before, but never get tired of. In fact, when we were stranded at a bus stop in Palm Springs this past weekend, we made good use of the W's Michaelangelo L'Acqua-commissioned playlist. For guests of the Americano,
"...a custom tailored music playlist from Brazilian icon Bebel GIlberto [will] reflect the cosmopolitan and nostalgic, yet decidedly Latin flavor of the hotel!"
Rates remain steady in the $425-$500 range, with the cheapest being a Downtown King (250 sq ft), and the most expensive an Uptown Studio (431 sq ft) at $695. Rooms are available now!
Check back next week, when we take a look inside the rooms and rooftop dining space, La Piscine!
