When Will We Get To See A Chatwal In India?

A lot of talk is flying around these days about a potential expansion into India (as well as London) by big-time hotelier Sant Singh Chatwal, who is Indian himself. Citing the "maximum potential" and "7%-9% growth rate" of India's current economy in this article, Chatwal makes it clear he has his brand-oriented mind set on expanding his luxury hotels onto Indian turf.

But until we get shots of a construction site, we have to scratch our heads and wonder: when will this Dream become a reality?

In an updated newsletter sent out by the company's PR team (which covers all the Chatwal, Dream, Night, and Stay brands), there is a mention of "plans for additional luxury properties outside London and India." But as of yet, the only flag planted in that soil is the Dream Cochin, which, as you may remember, purports to offer a "glimpse of the future of deluxe accommodations."

Now, as for the Indian expansion, we know that the Chatwal plans to continue partnering with the Wyndham Hotel Group to deliver the bundle of hotels planned for India. This is partially how he distinguishes his "luxury" brands from Hampshire Hotels, which he owns. While Hampshire Plaza already exists in India, there is not yet a "Chatwal India."

Certainly, the world is primed for an encore (or maybe climax?) performance by the Chatwal father-and-son Chatwal team. Hopefully, we won't be kept waiting as long we did for the Chatwal New York (formerly known as the Lambs Club).
