Andaz Shanghai to Open January 1, Andaz Amsterdam is Coming Soon

UPDATEAndaz Amsterdam ran into some problems the other month. Scroll down for more.

The other day we were combing through our inbox when we spotted an email about the forthcoming Andaz Shanghai. A tipster visiting Shanghai a few weeks ago was having drinks with friends at The Langham Xintiandi which opened nearly a year ago. He reports:

I can tell you right now, when I return to Shanghai in November, the get together with my friends will be in Andaz. Wow, the hotel is not open, but when I was there, they were doing some sort of training. Yes, I could see. They have what it appears to be a really cool restaurant, with outdoor seats, all lit up beautifully in the evening - on street level.

A friend knows a friend who knows the people in this hotel. He told me it had been built for a few years and was supposed to be another hotel brand, which never opened. Hyatt went in and put the Andaz name on it. I googled it and found out this was all correct. It was supposed to be a Jumeirah.

Poor Jumeriah for missing out on the "New Shanghai Sister" but yay for Andaz! And now we've got more good news. Just as we were writing up our tipster's excellent observation, we got another email from our Hyatt Deep Throat who pointed us to the hotel's website which is now taking reservations for January 1, 2012 and beyond. Our DT says that hotel rates will start around $375 a night. Unfortch, the website has no room photos but we'll keep on them about that. So hopefully our tipster can reschedule his get together until later in January.

Meanwhile, we got another email from an Andaz fan looking to stay at the Andaz Amsterdam in July. Sadly, while the hotel is set to open sometime in 2012, our sources say it won't be happening in July. Later in the summer, like towards the very end of Summer, could be a possibility but nothing is confirmed.

Of course, we're not satisfied with learning about just two new Andaz hotels on the horizon. We want more! So when we skipped on over to the Find Your Andaz page on the Andaz website we saw that the following locations are under development:

· Andaz Wailea Resort, Maui, 2014 (*Very interesting*)
· Andaz Papagayo, Costa Rica, 2013
· Andaz Delhi, India, 2013
· Andaz Turks and Caicos, 2014

Our dream of multiple Andazms worldwide is slowly coming true!

UPDATE, 4.41PM EST

Looks like the Andaz Amsterdam is having a rough start. A tipster pointed out that the building went up in flames back in July. Watch the video here. It looks like the fire absolutely ravaged the building but it also looks like the place was pretty empty to begin with. Either way, not a happy start.
