The second reviewer was a little more subdued, touching on some of the missing amenities and terrible lighting: · If you are going to supply candles in the living and bedroom areas, supply matches or lighters.
· a mini bar but no glasses?
· the lighting in the bathroom and vanity area are horrendous (coming from a woman!). They probably didn't want to mess with wiring in an old hotel, but seriously that horrible ambient yellow light is ridiculous to apply makeup in!!
We totally forgot about the missing matches for the candle but we probably just thought that the hotel wouldn't want to be liable for any fires. Either that or the matches were simply forgotten. As for the glasses, we found those in the drawer next to the mini-bar fridge where the big bottles of hard liquor were. (See photo above.)
As for the lighting, we didn't think it was so terrible, just a little difficult to maneuver around, i.e. we applied eye-liner standing in front of the full-length mirror. Also we found a lot of "secret" lighting in the room which we'll tell you more about tomorrow.
Finally, last reviewer was one of the people who picked up on the Living Social deal: I would stay here even without the offer. I was originally considering staying on the Magnificent Mile but much prefer this location. Great neighborhood that's just north of downtown but feels more local; the hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms comfortable and serene. Bar can be a bit of a 'scene' on a weekend evening but the staff seem friendly and helpful (no attitude here) and there have been surprisingly few kinks considering they're still in the soft launch.
So there you have it. So far, so good. Or as Ed McMahon would say--Two and a Half Stars!
