When Thompson Hotels peaced out of the Sagamore Hotel in South Beach way back when, they got busy expanding their hotel collection elsewhere--New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Chicago and even London. But now Jason Pomeranc and co. are strapping on their roller blades and coasting along Ocean Drive once again.

Thompson Hotels has announced this morning that they have snapped up the Hotel Victor, which was last a Hyatt, and are rebranding the place Thompson Ocean Drive. Straight from the presser:

Thompson Hotels will rebrand the historic hotel as the Thompson Ocean Drive through a multi-million dollar renovation to both guest rooms and public spaces, to be completed in early 2012. Thompson Hotels management is effective immediately, introducing the group’s renowned sophistication and service while maintaining the landmark’s legacy as the most desirable hotel in South Beach.

“We are elated to bring Thompson Hotels to Miami, and look forward to introducing the Thompson nuances of style and service to the market,” said Stephen Brandman, co-owner of Thompson Hotels.

Just what those Thompson nuances of style and service are exactly aren't quite determined but if you've stayed at a Thompson Hotel before you can expect three things--chic rooms, a rooftop bar and models. That the Victor already has an infinity pool, a 6,000 square foot Spa V, the fine Northern Italian BICE Ristorante and BICE Café and three lounges and bars shouldn't hurt either.

While Thompson has already added Thompson Ocean Drive to their website, reservations for the hotel are still being taken at HotelVictorSouthBeach.com. Rates for this weekend for a Partial Ocean View King start at $249 a night.
